I watched it through a wine fog....Satuirday night and all that. I agree Pink Floyd were absolutely incredible. Great choice of material - Breathe, Wich You Were Here, Comfortably Numb. Totally stole the 'show'.... I thought the Who were good too. But as an event can't help but feel the thing was a bit subdued. The UK event anyway. Crowd just didn't seem to react to anything. Thats before you go into the 'politics' or whatever, which I can't be arsed to anyway. Velvet Revover seemed to completely confuse folks though. I don't think that many people there even knew who they were. I liked them. Stupid overblown nonsense. Really funny!!

I watched most of it on T.V but from scissor sisters to the end the who I listened to it at a friends garden on the radio.
And can you believe this instead of playing velvet revolver they decided to have an interview with mariah fucking Carey. I was not one happy guy. So I thought sod it, they'll probably talk over pink Floyd so watched them on t.v.
Pete Doherty was obviously out of his head on smack. He kept missing his cues to start. Fool

As much as I liked Pink Folyd and the Who the whole idea of Live8 was revolting: lets raise awareness of poverty in Africa by applauding a bunch of millionaires. Talk about hypocrisy - does an irony bypass come free with your first platinum disc? The reason that Africa is poor is the same reason these idiots can live in appalling luxury - the system of inequality imposed on the world by the powerful North. Geldof cosy-ing up to Blair and Brown makes me want to puke. P.S. "sales of Pink Floyd's greatest hits CD up over 1000 percent since Sunday". Isn't capitalism brilliant?!! Heh heh heh p.p.s I work in 'Independent Music Distribution. Not one of the platinum selling artists we work with (some big names folks - some you'd recognise/own records of) were even asked to play. Majors looking after their own? How much of the profits generated by the MASSIVE sales of back catalogue of Pink Floyd, Robbie Williams etc will be pumped into Aid? Hmm not a lot I reckon..... Drop the debt? Yeah right.... Same thing happened after Live Aid. Made a career for U2, shored up Queen and countless other acts.

The whole point was to raise awareness of the G8 summit. And the best way to do that is to have a concert with all the biggest names and have the G8 summit explained to the public and why it's so important. I wonder, how many of your friends and family knew what the G8 summit was about before live 8?. Pink Floyd's sales have gone up 1000% but the saints they are have announced that all the profits from it will go to Charity's around the world. God aren't they just great?

I understand the point of the concert. I just don't like being lectured to by people like Mariah Carey (who needs someone to come on stage and open her water bottles for her) about Africas debt problem and poverty whilst surrounding herself with little kids in traditional 'African dress'. Pictures of starving children sell records. I know about things like the G8 summit by doing things like reading papers and listening to the news. But then maybe I'm atypical Now we all know about a summit thats going to fail in it's most basic aims. Doesn't make me feel very 'empowered'. Just makes me a bit more frustrated. The USA has convinced itself that it spends TOO MUCH on aid and that it is the most generous nation on Earth as it's aid programme is bigger than any other country (I think...) but in reality it spends less of it GNP than the UK, France, Italy etc etc. Bush for example doesn't even acknowledge that there is such as issue as 'climate change' and won't sign or back any kind of agreement that is anyway similar to Kyoto. The worlds most pre-eminent scientists cannot even draft a document expousing the perils of climate change without one of their number (an important US dude) throwing a hissy fit because it's all too 'political' and he doesn't want to be seen to be criticizing the US Govt! For christs sake!! You can't divorce climate change from politics!! Who are these fecking people!!! Hats off to Dave Gilmour for making a statement about profits, I wonder who else will follow suit? Coldplay? I really hope so! You can't divorce politics from music. But something about the whole Live8 spectacle really sticks in ones throat. Still as I've said, Pink Floyd were good.....
