Lullabies to Paralyze (or whatever is called) - Queens Of The Stone Age. You're right, I didn't include this because I don't think of them as a great band anymore, but they are. Or at least were.

Piece Of Cake... i think it has lots of truly great songs (suck you dry being one of those i like the least!) but as an album it doesn't stand up.
captain beefheart put out a couple of questionable albums on virgin somewhere between clear spot and his return to form with shiny beast.
can (the german band) also had many low points later in their career.
and what about the rolling stones? sure, any shit they recorded cama after a string of at least 12 masterworks, and then again, they're the fuckin' stones, so i guess we can forgive them...
the hellacopters jumped the shark with grande rock and never got back to form after that, as far as i'm concerned.
i'm very glad that turbonegro has reformed together but their last two records are highly forgettable. still a great live act though!
the 2002 self titled wellwater conspiracy album has always failed to impress me. i haven't listened to it in a long while though... maybe it's time to give it a spin.
late era roxy music weren't very cool. van morrison, too, had its low points.
the list is endless really...
in the end what really matters to me is, does a band put out a bad record because they're artistically outstretching themselves or for money / commercial reasons? there lies a HUGE difference.

I remember I read something somewhere and this guy was basically saying that when your younger and desperate to be big you play the best and create to the best music to your ability but once you get your number 1 records and you have all these fans and rolling in money you lose that zest for creating great music. So they release a load of old pap. Think it might of been Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) who said that.
Another example of that happening is Queen. On a 'classic albums' released on them for the 'Night at the opera' album Brian May said that he would never put as much effort on an album now as he did back then. I think thats sucks that fame can give you that attitude.
I just can't imagine saying"well I cant be arsed trying to make great music I'll just release what I feel like"

QOTSA's LTP sucked especially after Songs For The Deaf which was kick ass record! So was Rated R, but my favourite is SFTD because = Lanegan + Grohl = the fuckiest piece of greatness I've heard in a long time.

I dont think i'd agree with that what most of you think about LTP from queens of the stone age i mean OK it wasnt as good as Rated R Or Songs For The Deaf but i mean after an album like SFTD (Which was in my opinion a pretty perfect album) how do you come back from that? Half the world is a fan of you'r band you play loads of festivals and shows, sell millions of records so do you make another album to challenge that? No you make a totally diffrent album which flows and sounds nothing like the last album did or something along those lines.(Remember Kurt Cobains Interview On Live Tonight? When They Ask Him Whats The Next Album Going To Be Like After Nevermind And He Said He Felt They Were Going To Loose Alot Of Their Audience When The Next Album Is Released,Queens Kinda Did The Same.)Its not a SFTD album but for me personally it was a pretty good comeback after their ''Biggest Hit Selling/Commerical Album'.

I suppose. But I just didn't like LTP really. I guess I set my sights too high after SFTD

True QOTSA have gone wayyy downhill without Oliveri. He both enthralled and scared me at the same time. Love the "First It Giveth" video where he's smashing a bass while he completely naked. Quality.
