Cobain’s Hometown Pays Tribute To Nirvana A memorial committee set up in remembrance of Kurt Cobain has petitioned to get a new tribute to the late Nirvana star constructed in his native town of Aberdeen, in Washington. The memorial committee, formed in May 2004 with the goal of finding ways to honour Kurt Cobain in his hometown, have been petitioning to build a memorial park and youth centre constructed in the small town of Aberdeen. Their efforts finally came to fruition last Monday (April 4) when a new sign was added to the 'Welcome to Aberdeen' sign on the town’s limits. The new sign [pictured] tells people to 'Come As You Are' in reference to the track on Nirvana’s classic album ‘Nevermind’. “I think it's a good idea and it's about time,” Cobain’s grandfather Leland Cobain stated in an interview with the Aberdeen Daily World newspaper, “I drive by there every day and look for it. I have been waiting for it to go up.”
“After getting feedback from Kurt's fans across the world, we settled on 'Come As You Are' because it had dual meanings,” said committee co-chairman Jeff Burlingame, “Nirvana fans will understand the significance, yet it's vague and appropriate enough that the meaning is applicable to everyone.”
More information can be found at www.kurtcobainmemorial.org

According to a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Dave Grohl has admitted that he was never terribly close to the other members of Nirvana - and that Kurt Cobain at times thought he was a bit of a shonky tub-thwacker.
Apparently Grohl learned of Cobain's disapproval not through the miserable midget hollering at him direct, but through overheard conversations and the like. "I don't think I've ever told anyone this, but there were times when Kurt was really unhappy with the way I played drums," Grohl said. "I could hear him talking about how much he thought I sucked. But he'd never say it to me."
This was apparently compounded by the fact that, in a less deathy Spinal Tap way, Grohl was just the long line in a series of Nirvana drummers. "When I joined Nirvana I was the fifth or sixth drummer - I don't know if they'd ever had a drummer they were totally happy with. And they were strangers. There was never much of a deeper connection outside of the music."
He felt like the gooseberry in the trio, as Kurt and Krist "fuckin' shared everything, and they were the kind of friends that didn't have to talk to each other - they just knew."
Looks like not everyone was a fan of grohls drumming then eh.

That's pretty harsh on him. I think Kurt needed his ears testing cos from a non-biased point of view (well semi-biased) he's one of the best drummers around. Fuck Portnoy and all, Dave kicks ass.
