I failed to ask his opinion on Cornells Bond theme tune. Not a huge grunge fan my Dad....... He can't make an opinion even though the song sounds in no way at all 'grunge'? Odd. Damn my fathers lack of knowledge of the sub genres of modern rock music!! Er.... my lovely Dad has never bought a record (or downloaded a track) in his live and has absolutely no idea who Chris Cornell is. Bless him - grunge means nothing to him - its all noise to him. I wouldn't want him any other way!! However I shall ask him what he thought of the track and if it stirred anything in him internally. thanks

My dad also lacks knowledge of the subgenres. He listens to that classic rock bullshit.

my dad took me see AC/DC when I was 11. It was my first concert experience. It was pretty cool, although he does know shit about subgenres. Anyway, about Cornell, he looks good, as good as Mark and Steve. They've aged pretty good. About his music, certainly Soundgarden or Audioslave or his solo career don't speak to me.

By 'classic rock' I meant Lynard Skinard or however you spell his name. The bad, country one-hit-wonder stuff.
I hope that isn't what you like.
All the other stuff rocks rocks of course.
I just HATE country music.

Lynyrd Skynyrd were a band not a person. Bloody loads of 'em too. But then about half of them died in a plane crash... Still going in one form or another probably. I must admit I don't really care for them either... Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird or any of it. Classic Rock is a huge area of music. But come on you can't dismiss 'country music' like that Well you can if you like - but it's great! Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Charlie Pride etc etc. But if old school country music is too much check out the late 60s West Coast Country Rock explosion - you'll dig it. Go out and buy - or download or 'rip' or whatever - something like Sweetheart of The Rodeo by the Byrds or the 1st Flying Burrito Brothers album or anything solo by Gram Parsons. Or check out Gene Clark and Doug Dillards album 'The Fantastic Expedition Of...'. Avoid the Eagles - they do suck. Mike Nesmith after he left the Monkees did some great country stylee albums too. Neil Youngs 'Harvest' album kinda has the vibe and is pretty easy to deal with - that or 'After The Goldrush'. Avoid his 'Old Ways' album though - it's awful. Modern country - the Nashville stuff you see on the Country Music Awards does kinda suck - but check out folks like Jesse Sykes, Laura Cantrell, Victoria Williams or Neko Case. All these ladies are incredible!! You could do worse than checking out an old Wilco or Uncle Tupelo album too. Alt Country is a pretty broad church. You also gots ya Giant Sand, Waco Brothers, Chris Mills, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Son Volt etc etc etc Mudhoney worked with Jimmy Dale Gilmore and there is a total country element to Steve Turners solo stuff. Country music is about as broad based as rock.. I love Dolly Parton, Bobbie Gentry, Dusty (in Memphis:), Jerry Lee Lewis' country records - blah blah blah ;D

I just HATE country music. Get yourself some Hank III and your opinion will automatically change. The Melvins have been ending their set with Okie From Muskogee, a Merle Haggard cover, a few times already this tour.

I agree i also think chris looks fucking good for his age,I also found his voice just gets better even though i've only heard a few seconds of this new bond theme tune (im not a fan of bond dont ask) I mean ok audioslave had their 10mins of fame and all but his voice just seems to get better with time strange eh mabye its just me? I haven't heard the new track but to answer your question: no, it isn't strange. With some singers it takes a couple of years before their voice is fully developed. Buzz is another example of that, but also Mark Lanegan, Rollins (compare Damaged to My War's b-side), Ian McKaye (Minor Threat vs. Evens) etc. But having that said, Cornell has always been more of a 'technically' good singer, unlike the examples I listed, who all sing more in a natural way I think.
