Can I put forward another question that i've always wondered about... Mark sed in the linear notes of 'March to Fuzz' that he changes the words at the last minutes to Spaceman 5's "Revolution" and it really pissed that guy off etc etc hence their own ironic cover of 'When tomorrow hits'....
So my question is: What are the original lyrics to that song?? I could never find em on the net. I guess it's something to do with Mark changing the words to make the song pro-heroine (which i personally think is pretty funny/cool...) Any clues?
happynewyear btw!

Spacemen 3 - Revolution
Well look out Well I’m sick I’m so sick Of a lot of people Tryin’ to tell me What I can and can’t do With my life And I’m tired I’m so tired Of a lot of people In a lot of high places Don’t want you and me To enjoy ourselves Well I’m through with people Who can’t get off their arse To help themselves change this government And better this society‘ Cos it’s shit But hold on a second I smell burning And I see a change Comin’ ‘round the bend And I suggest to you That it takes Just five seconds Just five seconds Of decision To realise That the time Is right To start thinkin’ about A little… Revolution!

I don't think the songs changed lyrics were made to come out as 'pro - heroin' at all. I don't think the song originally has much to do with heroin abuse either. Lets have a revolution by nodding out and burning a whole in our duvets. Er yeah right The songs changed lyrics take a cheeky and loving swipe at the songs.... general goofiness. I'm guessing - but I think MA used all the junk references 'cos at the time Spacemen 3 were pretty un-abashed about their drug use and it was kinda.... funny? I'm so sick Of getting sick The long uphill climb to the methadone clinic etc etc And I can see a change coming In my blackened spoon It takes just 5 minutes to stick a morphine suppository all the way inside etc etc That's a piss take. Sonic B didn't see the funny side either (though it's all cool now apparently - this was 15+ years ago) and a proposed split single between the two bands was nixed - I think they'd already done a cover of When Tomorrow Hits - that cover wasn't a musical riposte. So says the official history and all that.

thanks Smallstone - very insightful. obviously i wasn't really meaning 'PRO HEROINE!' when i said 'pro heroine' if you know what i mean..!(?) But knowing the original lyrics helps emphasize Mark's parody of freely dispensed heroine as the way towards REVOLUTION! haha
cheers

No worries man Revolution is such a great song and Spacemen 3 were such a great bad. Live they took ya head off - droning away on one chord, sat down on their little stools.....Perfect Prescription is personally one of my favourite albums. The book Spacemen 3 & The Birth Of Spiritualized by Erik Morse is an exhaustive history of the band and well worth checking out. Listening to the cover version now.... Anyways I'm pro-Heron! Easily my favourite bird They're so....pre-historic!
