I'm thinking about getting a Big Muff, but there are a lot of reissues. What do you guys recommend that I get? I'm thinking of the Big Muff Pi by Electro-Harmonix, since it's only $80.00. Does this pedal actually (almost) replicate the Mudhoney sound?

Welcome-wrong forum but it's not the end of the world...There are multiple reissues of both the Russian and USA models with slight differences -electronically and cosmetically- in both. I have owned both the Russian, and American models and there is no comparison, the USA model blows the Russian out of the water. It has better sustain, tone, and a thicker, fuzzier sound. Russian is a good fuzz pedal but just doesn't hold up to its American counterpart(cough up the extra $20, its worth it!!!) now the Big Muff is a good start to getting that Mudhoney sound, but there are many other things to factor in. First of all Steve also uses a Memphis distortion pedal, and octive pedal. He also plays single coil guitars like his Mustangs, which have a much different sound than guitars with humbuckers...this should be a good start for you.

Alright, thanks. Right now I'm playing a 1979 black Fender American Telecaster, and it's working out nicely. I believe that Steve has been seen playing a cream/white telecaster...? Yeah, I'll probably get a Memphis distortion pedal as well, they're super cheap.
What's an octive pedal?
Thank so much again.

Mark plays a tele, yes. Octave*pedals basically give you the ability to thicken up your guitar sound. The Boss brand pedal adds one octave signal below the original guitar signal, and another one below that one. So you can really get a thick, full sounding guitar. It's totally an optional effect(like all pedals for that matter). Good luck!

i have that boss pedal and it isnt really all isnt really all its cut out to be!! apparently electro harmonix have something called an octave multiplexer which works on chords thats what you really need, the boss makes the guitar sound like a keyboard, rather than thickening up the sound!

I live in Seattle, so pedals are ususally somewhat cheap and easy to find.
