Sniff .....that really is beautiful.....Oh man - this is easily the best posting on the board this year This does indeed take one back. Not that I lived in the Pacific Northwest in the late '80s - but damn, those Sub Pop ads and their whole design aesthetic back then (was it all down to Jane Higgins and Charles Petersen?) just blew my mind as a teenager. They may look so simple - but they totally created such a world of their own and relay worked in making Sub Pop a desirable label. In the same way that v23 did at 4AD and Peter Saville did for Factory Records. But then the Sub Pop roster was pretty incredible at the time.... There is a series of book being published in the UK that celebrate record labels - they've done Warp and Rough Trade so far, and Vaughan Oliver of v23 has published a few design / art books. Sub Pop anyone? Coffee table punk/grunge books. I have plenty at here already - 2 x Petersen photography books, Art Chantry design book, Melvins book etc etc I'll see if I can dig out some of my old ad inserts from vinyl and get them scanned. Thanks for posting these ads though
