I have - Fender Jaguar Fender Mustang Yamaha - which is now in bits and needs repair but im to lazy to bother with it Fender Accoustic and my first guitar which is in no working order which also is a cheap and nasty Tanglewood. At the moment though my girlfriend has my mustang and im buming around on her Strat which i really like, but yeah thorn there is more to life than fender and gibsons man honest you should get out there man and check more guitars out.

I'm one of those saddoes who gets WAY too impressed by what my favourite guitarists are playing.... I got the Epi SG because of Ian Mackaye.... I saved up months for my Jazzmaster because of J Mascis. Dumb huh. Recently though I've been playing my truly battered £120 Squier Tele again. Open tuned with a capo for sort of psych folk blues raga thing..... in my mind!! It's not a great guitar but it kidna fits me right. If I had to be honest I'm just not good enough to really do justice to my '66 Jazzmaster. It's too big for me! It does sound great though.... even though I'm only sticking it thru a Fender Blues Junior. I realise I will never play anywhere near as good as Mascis.... I'm kinda still interested in getting hold of a Mustang at some point - for those Stevie Turner moments. But I wouldn't say no to a Guild Starfire or a Gretsch Silver Jet. Or a Hagstrom even! Thats the Mudhoney fan in me! Futuramas by Hagstrom have really thin necks which would suit me. I've played all sorts of guitars from PRSs to Rickenbacker Basses (I like 'em!) and you'd have to be a pretty master guitarist to really be able to firmly say THIS is THE guitar. Gibsons and Fenders - good guitars. Rickenbacker. Gretsch. Guild etc Just as good methinks.

Yeah but thats not really true is it? Rickenbackers and Gretschs for example were contemporaries of Gibson and Fender back in the day (1940s and 50s) and one could argue they have their own unique personalities. Historically it's not all about Fender and Gibson - not to downplay their MASSIVE contribution. Didnt Rickenbacker pioneer electric guitars - so one could argue everything builds on their work - not copying Gibson or Fender.
