Hey there Norecess for the benefit of the class explain to me 'selling out' please What are they 'selling out'? Their died in the wool socialist princples? Are you saying that 'selling out' is bad? Good question. I think selling put means when you're not in full control of your own artistic movement anymore. When you don't put a certain track on an album because you were told to. When you change your sound for the benefit of a bigger fan base. To me, that is selling out. So, according to that, the Melvins are no sell outs. But as with every word, a definition only has a certain meaning in the right context. When I said the Melvins are a bunch of sell outs, I meant they sell everything they can. When bands do that, it's often considered uncool and they're called a bunch of sell outs. Atlantic. Good example of a band signing with a major and kept full artistic control and taking full profit of the possibilities they got with this. Of course, Atlantic had no fucking clue what they were doing. When people ask him why he does something, the answer is usually 'why the hell not?'. I absolutely disagree when you say it's sad. It's publicity. Any form of publicity is good. Plus, it's funny. I like to see him ranting. Besides, no one who watches that has a damn clue who he is anyway.

Yup - regarding your points on selling out I kind of agree with you. When one's 'artistic vision' is compromised for commercial gain then yr selling out. Not sure if Melvins have done that, not sure they haven't. Kinda doubt they have though. As for Fox - I guess we'll just have to disagree I'm not advocating some kind of cred points system and I don't think talking to the mainstream media per se is uncool. I just get spooked by Fox and it's pretty pernicious right wing agenda. Also I didn't think the discussion they were having was that funny or Buzz's contribution that insightful. I also don't agree that ALL publicity is good. I think there's a time when if yr asked to do something (like appear on Fox) then maybe sometimes you should stop and think and go....er nah I don't think this would be a good idea. But I have no problem with Buzz doing anything he likes at all - I just wouldn't have in his position. For my own reasons:) And yes - sell outs in the context you used it - I'd say the Melvins were.... working the market effectively. Thorn baby, this is called a 'discussion'. A friendly discussion at that. It's what adults do. Learn from us

you might grow a brain then smallstone you big "adult"!!!!!!!!!!!! as i said the first time thier music is sooooooooooo non commercial its not even funny, plus they do exactly as they wish not what anyone else says, so norecess it was then easy to deduce that purely on musical merit they are not selling out, even when they signed to atlantic (listen to stag then tell me they sold out!!!!!) which is then why i said you dont listen to the music, as it speaks for itself!!! but there's only so many ways i can say things and watch the insults roll back at me, o by the way when you do that smallstone ill be actually LISTENING to the melvins something you seem to have lost touch with!!!
now i sit and wait........

You're right of course. I'm not listening to the Melvins. I'm sat here listening to the Clangers soundtrack S'great too! www.trunkrecords.com/turntable/clangers.shtmlThorn - I'm still not sure whether you think they've 'sold out' or not though. Or whether you think I said they were 'sell outs'. Are you saying they're 'sell outs'. Norecess I think Thorn thinks you've 'sold out'!! I've 'sold out' without a doubt. I work for the 'man'. Have you ever 'sold out' Thorn? We need to know When the Melvins music speaks for itself - what do you think it's saying?

guys you always think im in such a bad mood!!!!!!!!!! hasn't anyone ever heard of humour!!!!!!!!!!!!!
norecess you look so alike the bass player who is gonna make us famous!!!! wierd!!!!!! is that a fender jaguar bass i detect in the background?? they fucking rock!!!! nice fat and dirty sounding bass!!
the melvins music speaks to me because of its ferocious intent, it grabs me by my ears not forcing but rather hypnotising me to listen, screaming about themes (on the new album) that i care about, whilst clearly enjoying beating the living shit out of thier instruments to get the point across!! thats how strongly they feel and its fucking great to sit and appreciate that. plus the fact that they are so damn heavy there are few other bands who could rock like this. the passion is there with the of razor sharp focus, of (what i consider) musical genius! all the while being able to really laugh at themselves and everything else!!!!!!!
now i do indeed realise that this sounds EXREMELY cheesy, but i dont care coz thats how they make me feel, and i had a hard time telling them this without looking like a complete fucking idoit!!!!! it was way worse when i met krist noviselic, o well!!!!!!!!!

No but I got this Fender Jazz I can borrow from a friend for a while. This is me playing Flipper covers, by the way. I like that green t-shirt also. And yes, the Melvins rock. They're brilliant. I love everything about them, everything. Everything they recorded, from Prick to CoD. I also pre-ordered Brian Walsby's Manchild 3, a comic book with the Makin' Love Demo's included. Ozma demo's recorded in Dale's bedroom, Matt Lukin's last recordings of the band. From Brian's MySpace.
