Exciting SY news!! Digging these re-issues a lot. Excited by the Blue album getting a re-release on CD. I have a cool vinyl copy somewhere - a mid/late 80s re-issue. Richard Edson on drums. Cool. Wonder what the extras will be on these? Rumours on the SY front is that they are in the studio working on a new album but are back to a 4 piece after the departure of Jim O'Rourke. Now this is just what a work colleague told me.... could be a lot of old rot!! DVD version of Lee Renaldo's films out in a few weeks. Saw it at the cinema about a month ago (with a raging hangover!!) - worth picking up though if you're into Sonic Youth:)

There you go - hey Lamestain - do you know why he's out? Mutual parting of ways?

Lee Ranaldo: "Jim is going through a lot of different stuff personally and about where he sees his future. He's really interested in pursuing stuff outside the musical arena, particularly film work. Not necessarily soundtrack work, but making films and getting involved in that community."

Early 2006: Sonic Youth's debut self-titled EP will be reissued as well as Ciccone Youth's "Whitey Album" and Thurston Moore's solo album "Psychic Hearts." I was gonna buy them two on ebay t'other day. Thank god I didn't.

SYR 6 AVAILABLE NOW
'Koncertas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui', the sixth album in the band's Sonic Youth Recordings series, is available now in stores and via sonicyouth.com/store. This CD edition of the SYR series is a recording of the benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives on April 12, 2003. Sonic Youth performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes. Part of the proceeds of this CD will again benefit the Anthology Film Archives.
COMING IN EARLY 2006:
Reissues of the eponymous Sonic Youth EP, Ciccone Youth's Whitey Album, and Thurston's solo Psychic Hearts record are extremely close to completion, and will be released early next year. The EP promises to be extraordinary, with tons of bonus tracks and extensive liner notes. All three records will be issued by DGC on CD, while SY's own Goofin' imprint will handle the vinyl.
New Sonic Youth LP for 2006:
Between tours throughout 2005, SY have been working on new music for their next LP. Initial recording for this new LP has commenced at legendary Sear Sound Studio in NYC. We'll keep you updated on sy.com as the new album progresses.
