Yeah I like the Swans:)
I wouldn't say that I sit down often and listen to Greed / Money and the more dirgey moments but they certainly had their moments! Caught them live a few times on the Burning World tour and they were excellent!!
I kinda like Michael Gira - and god bless hi, for 'discovering' Devendra Banhart!!

the problem with the swans is that all their records are so expensive, it always kept me away from them. but what i heard i liked.
that banhart guy though, that's a different story. i haven't listened to him very carefully but so far he doesn't seem like a big deal to me, i can't see what the hype is all about... is his record all along the lines of his mtv video?

I've never really gone back and checked out the price of Swans vinyl or looked out for the CD re-issues, but after all this talk of them I think I will!!
Doesn't Gira keep old stuff available/in print on his Young God label?
I have a lovely old copy of their Joy Division 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' 12" + various old albums of theirs.
As for Devendra I think he's well worth checking out. His 'Rejoicing In the Hands' & 'Nino Rojo' CDs are up there in my albums of the year. I saw him play an incredible show at the wee Water Rats Theatre in Kings Cross, London back in the spring. He is kinda 'kooky', but it all seems pretty genuine to me. The obvious early T Rex vibe is apparent but the guy has a spirit all of his own and his songwriting is amazing!
This year has seen some amazing albums from these sort of new wave folk dudes. Sufjan Stevens for example. The 2nd Iron and Wine album was great too.
I'm rambling now...
