Who here likes Syd? I have to say i always thought Pink Floyd were boring untill a friend of mine told me to listen to Interstellar Overdrive and Bike from that moment i was like It's a shame he went crazzy, but for the short period of him making music he made music most people can't even make in there lifetime!

Hmmm, Pink Floyd a load of over produced prog rock shit. Lets mull on this for a while shall we:) Yeah this is an issue me, my wife and friends discuss a lot (yes we are that dull!) They think I am crazy for having ANY Pink Floyd in the house..... I heartilly disagree! Personally I think 'Piper At The Gates At Dawn' is a classic 60s psychedelic record. Syd at his best!! Interstellar Overdrive, Bike, Astronomy Dominee plus all the early singles like Arnold Layne. You need to hear these records Thorn. I think you'd like the early stuff. Seriously! I'm fascinated by the whole Syd myth I must admit. It's a tragic rock story. His solo albums have their moment but it's like listening to someones mental health collapse. Not easy listening but well worth checking out. The Madcap Laughs and Opal in my opinion. I think there is a Best Of Syd available too. Tracks like Terrapin, Octopus, Baby Lemonade etc are amazing! As for post Pink Floyd. Come on now - they're great!!! Up to point.... Meddle is an amazing record, especially Echoes! Ummagumma is ok and so is Atom Heart Mother. But A Saucerfull Of Secrets is so cool! I think there is a lot of 60s Pink Floyd in Mudhoney. You need to hear Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun!! It's great! Ok ok.... I really like Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here too!! Come on! They're great records!!! But I kind of give up after that.....not into the Wall! Anyone else here like the Floyd? I recommend getting the Pink Floyd at Pompeii DVD. Its really good. Early 70s live 'experience'. They get into some great motorik grooves. But yeah Syd is great!

I agree with ya smalstone pink floyd is great shit,i for one LOVE their music,Ok there are some great bands around at the moment, and back in the day their were to,but NEVER have i heard music with so much feeling and so many diffrent fellings along with it to except mabye sonic youth that shit always makes me feel diffrent, but floyd are/were/still are (for me) a level above most bands And while on drugs listening to them..well i feel untoucable ahaha but yeah im a floyd fan and will remain one.

Thanks Thorn! Nice to see we're all honing our debating skills on this topic!! We're not 'reprimanding' you. This isn't some cool club. So you feel they use effects too much and take too long to make records? Is that what you're saying? That may actually be true of their later 80s/90s output. But like I said check out their EARLY stuff and some of their 70s albums. Sure it's got effects, but cool stuff like Echoplexs and mad 60s mixing board nonsense! They were pioneers to an extent. It's good trust me!! Syd Barrett - Easy listening it isn't!

Your probably thinking of songs like The Wall and so on they ain't 5% as good as anything syd wrote. Download See Emily Play, Interstellar Overdrive, Flaming, Bike and anything else written by Syd, then come back and tell us how much they ...... <-- you can't answer that yet And Mike do you like later or earlier Pink Floyd??

In the November 1995 edition of Rockstar magazine, Mudhoney were given a six out of 10 for fame, and an eight out of 10 for guitar loudness. The magazine suggested they'd have made four perfect gas station attendants "without grunge," and that in the future they'd turn into a "low success blues group." The main insight given, however, was in the list of perceived influences (marks from zero to three): "Beatles 0, Led Zeppelin 2, Black Sabbath 0, Jimi Hendrix 1, Stooges 3, Neil Young 2, Velvet Underground 0, Sex Pistols 2, MC5 3, Pink Floyd 1."
"They're wrong, they're totally wrong," asserts Arm when confronted with the figures today. "That doesn't even account for the Fall or Gang of Four or Devo or anything like that.
"I'll re-grade them for you," he states, the Record Collector's Record Collector. "The Beatles is right. Led Zeppelin should be a zero. Black Sabbath is a three. That's obvious. Jimi Hendrix would be a three, but we just can't play that good, so it's a two. The Stooges is right, obviously. So is Neil Young. Velvet Underground, one, Sex Pistols, two, MC5 is correct, and Pink Floyd...? It depends what era you're talking about. I've been doing this a lot lately, figuring out the exact moment when a band turns bad, probably because we've been around so long. Live at Pompeii is so great, but if you listen to Atom Heart Mother, that's pretty fucking bad, so... once they stopped being psychedelic warriors, I guess.
"I'm self-aware, so that keeps things in check hopefully. I'd hate someone to say we've been bad since Piece of Cake, because I know that isn't so great, but we have been improving since then...."
