Ok ok - so what was it like last night in London? WELL IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!! I'd have to say seeing the J, Lou, Murph line up play last night was BETTER than 16 years ago. Perhaps not so exciting (as I've said the time I saw them in 1989 was a bit of a special night - and you get kind of excited about stuff a bit more when you're 17 compared to 33:) but Jesus last night was pretty damn special. I got a great seat, left hand side, 2nd row from balcony. In front of Js ENORMOUS rig.... My god it was loud too. I dispensed with ear plugs for once as I kinda wanted to hear it 'as it was'. About half way through it started to hurt.... Anyway set wise look pretty similar to Gronigen 'cept they played live for as Lou said for the first time ever (with him anyway!!) Little Fury Things. They didn't play Bulbs Of Passion. Set seemed to be pretty much ALL of You're Living All Over Me, sans Poledo and Lou's tape excursions etc. They kinda fucked up Repulsion, well J changed guitars about a third of the way through due to a broken string and lost a bit of momentum. Couple of false starts on songs which if anything were kind of funny and added to the pretty relaxed atmosphere. Mountain Man at the end was great. Budge was in the middle of the set. I know they didn't play Yeah We Know, The Post, Don't and Severed Lips (my wife's favourite Dino song - she dug it all too). But my god, In A Jar!! Crowd, which was a pretty good mix of ages i.e. not all over 30s! were really into it, downstairs anyway, pretty big pit and some silly 'crowd surfing'. I hate crowd surfing - adopts Northern accent - 'In't my day we stage dived, and that's it, none of this t'surfing nonsense'. They all seemed INTO IT. J was animated, stomping around, hair flailing around, some of his solos, noises (he does love to stomp on his phaser!) etc wee mind bending!! I've seen J about 10 + times? Solo, original line up, with Mike J and George B, with George and Mike Watt, as the Stooges etc etc etc but this was the BEST!!!! This is the band he was born to play with!! Lou was great too. I think he has this slightly studied detachment to his playing, like this is ALL TOO WEIRD, but it worked. He played an old Rickenbacker 4001 bass, then swapped to a groovy old Gibson Thunderbird when he bust a string towards the end. Murph? Well what can you say! I've heard he's had problems over the past 10 years. Drugs etc He's bald as a coot, but DAMN he's still one the best hardcore drummer/rock drummers I've ever seen. He was rocking it!!! I'm considering going again tonight - but maybe it wouldn't be as good.... and I'm knackered. Also the rumours that they are gonna come back in September for the Don't Look Back series of gigs in London that Mudhoney are playing, won't die down, so I don't think this is the last opportunity to see this line up..... All in all. This was another night I won't forget!!!!

Haven't heard of that band yet. What are they like?
Assuming 1988 is your year of birth, you'll probably be one of the youngest audience member Tuesday night ;]
I'll wear my Wipers shirt, maybe you will recognize me.
