martin--we've already talked about how easy it is to buy stuff on ebay, even with no credit card, right? i still don't understand why you don't want to do that but you probably have some good reason so i won't bother you anymore.
as i've said elsewhere, i believe a retrospective tad double cd set with a nice fat booklet would sell respectably. i guess even getting the right to include their major label stuff wouldn't be too much of a hassle--i'm sure their record company doesn't give a shit about them anymore anyway.
gods balls is a killer record. it was also a bit more "experimental" than their later stuff, if you know what i mean. nipple belt is pure genius.
as for the really "grunge" records, i think "primal rock therapy" by blood circus, especially its cd version with all those bonus tracks, totally deserves that status too. i wanna do a circus cover band just to play electric johnny for hours. that's like grunge's sister ray to me!

Some sociological (for want of a better term!) musings on Tad:) I'd like to write a 'paper' on this stuff!!! I think I may try and do a degree in grunge..... Tad really were THE band that really personified the whole notion/myth that Sub Pop played on that their bands were 'dumb rednecks'. I think to a certain extent Tad played up to this a bit in the early days. The Wood Goblins video for example. All chainsaws and being men in the woods shtick! Tad looks like he's never wielded a chainsaw in his life as he aggressively prunes some foliage!!..... It was a pretty neat marketing trick I think! They kinda tried to do it with Mudhoney and Nirvana as well. Play on the whole trailer trash vibe 'cos of the way the bands looked and sounded (long hair, cheap thrift shop clothes etc). Thing was folks like Kurt from Tad and Mr Arm/Stevie Turner from Mudhoney were/are University students! But at the time in the late 80s I can remember the whole grunge/Sub Pop image/myth thing was seized upon so much by the UK music press as it really was such a reaction against the whole student indie and gothy/punk indie scene that was so prevalent over here! Here were at last bands who weren't trying to reference the Smiths/New Order or the Sisters of Mercy/Cure (the really BIG 80s bands in the UK). It was so fresh! Or more so it was like the perfect distillation of a pretty vibrant underground scene. Your Big Blacks, Sonic Youths, Dinosaurs, Black Flag, hardcore etc etc Here were bands who played 'heavy' music but they were on a cool indie, the music was kind of affiliated with cool bands and basically once it had the seal of approval of a bunch of journalists in this country it was away! The thing about the whole rise of Sub Pop in the UK was that at the time we had 3 weekly music papers in the UK. Sounds, Melody Maker and the NME. You had journos like (most importantly) Everett True, Roy Wilkinson, Edwin Pouncey, Keith Cameron and even Simon Reynolds championing Mudhoney, Nirvana and Tad in 1989. Imagine that instead of today the NME rather than putting the Killers, Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs on the cover of their paper, and it was instead Mudhoney, Tad and Nirvana, thats how IN YOUR FACE Sub Pop where back then. Well alongside stuff like the Happy Mondays, Stone Rosess and all those aforementioned BIG 80s bands. Unlike the US, where I think things take a little longer to gestate due to its HUGE size, you can pretty much create a scene in the UK or popularise something in a matter of weeks or months. Back in the late 80s this is way before the internet. So subsequently weekly papers and someone like John Peel playing the records nationally meant that in a matter of months those 3 bands were selling out venues like the Astoria and touring the UK and Europe!! But Tad, anyway what was I thinking? I'm rambling again. Sorry! Tuna Car for example! Jesus Christ. How MOLTEN does that sound. Live it was just a musical pummelling! I like Eight Way Santa too. There are some good tunes on it. I have a nice yellow vinyl copy with the banned sleeve. Mmmm. I kinda lost interest in Tad after those first few records and whilst I own all the later major label albums, I don't play them at all. Anyone know what Mr Doyle is up to now - post Hog Molly? It's funny that video for Mudhoneys 'Suck You Dry' track, the whole GRUNGE reunion thang........ it's not too far from the truth!! Except I think a few more folks'll turn up!

It was great back then - but it's always good you know. I've been to see some amazing shows this year, some shows I will never forget. It's always good!! You just got to dig out the good stuff! Last night I saw an incredible Swedish band called Dungen supprt the Go! Team in London. I think everyone on this board should hear Dungen! Mad psychedelic 70s Scandinavian almost prog like madness. I've seen Interpol, Julian Cope, Comets On Fire, Maximo Park and Boris to name but a few so far this year. Oh but what I'd give for a time machine to go back to May 1989 and see Mudhoney again..... But since this is a Tad thread!! Here's some more words of wisdom from the great man!! From a wee Melody Maker interview in 1989. One of favourite things lists! Fave drink: Playtex nurser (?!) Fave record: Sly & The Family Stone What Makes You Cry?: Nothing!! I'm a man! Captain Crunch with crunchberries! Whay do you consider your greatest strength?: My body odour What is your greatest fear? Runnng out of beer What is your greaest pleasue? Having lots of beer! What annoys you the most? Tuna fish made with miracle whip instead of mayo!! Tad is a GOD!!
