It's all relative though innit. I live in London. It costs me nowt to get to the gigs, but I get fucked off paying £17 a ticket than £4/5 booking fee per ticket. If these gigs were in New York it would cost me 10 x more. But they ain't, they're in good old London town:) And I'm a tight wad dude. I don't like to pay for anything.... Sorry.

sorry smallstone, i was saying just that... i don't like interpol. i have seen them live at least ten times, clubs, small festivals, big ones, whatever, and each time they were a total disappointment. sure they do have a couple good songs, they can play, i meet them and they're nice blokes yadda yadda... so yeah they're good... for a joy division ripoff band. my god, they're so much of a JD xerox copy that i find it almost offensive. theirs is the only track that i skip on that u2 sampler mojo gave away a couple months back.
i'm not sure if i'd go as far as saying that maximo park are the new pulp, let alone the new fall! make no mistake, i always love a well written pop song, say, that chick from ash, her song on the aforementioned u2 comp is really good. but the few things i've heard from MP didn't hit me as memorable at all. plus they're so much into this shtick about current uk bands, ya know, fancy suits, arty names, whatever, i'm sick of that shit!
i don't want to sound too harsh towards the uk music, i love so many bands from that country, but i wish you could understand how sick i am of all the crappy bands that NME promotes, and especially how sick i am of seeing the glossy magazines on the continent buying into that shit and in turn trying to sell it to us.
ya want another example? THE LIBERTINES. worst band of the decade, period. i've seen'em live many times too, and i couldn't believe how awful they were. most of all, you should have seen how much every time the crowd hated them, except from the usual small pack of diehard fans. the gap between the hype and the actual success they have is amazing. i mean, they've been talking for months about the crazy relationship between those two guys... and how the lyrics from their new album reflect that... you'd see line by line interpretations everywere in the press... but the truth is: NOBODY CARES. maybe in the uk these things work, but in the mainland it's just annoying. i pray to god this pathetic babyshambles trainwreck will end quickly and that the two sods' fifteen minutes will expire soon. i've actually heard drug dude married kate moss... wow, i can just image their deep conversations between hits from the crackpipe.
franz ferdinand, on the other hand, seem to me to be quite a nice band. their gigs are always funny and never boring and they are at least more original than interpol!

To Raunchands: Oh man I TOTALLY agree re: NME and 99% of ALL the bands they feature. It's not just who and what they feature it's the quality of 'journalism' too. Or lack of. It says (almost) nothing to me about my musical life (and seriously the only 2 bands they feature who I like are Maximo and Interpol). I don't think Interpol are the new JD - but yeah, the influences are clear to hear. As for Maximo I don't actually think they are the new Pulp or the new Fall. Just making a point that they skirt around those bands, influence wise. But there's a lot of the Buzzcocks in Maximo too... I;m embarrased by the NME. It paints a picture of the UK music scene that is not true. But then I'm in my mid 30s and most of the bands I go see, play with don't get featured there anyway!! I can take or leave Franz F too really. Fair band and all and yeah they seem astute gents but musically they don't really do it for me. I think my point (not that I really HAD a point!) was that I like Maximo and Interpol. I think they suffer from association from all the countless TERRIBLE bands the NME promote. Lets name a few names. The Ordinary Boys, Hard Fi, The Rakes, Athlete, Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs, Futureheads etc etc etc But then I dislike The Killers, Bravery and these awful US bands just as much..... Bad music knows no borders......and you are of course completely entitled to your Interpol opinion

I think The Libertines are a great band. But the only time I saw them was without Pete so a roadie replaced him, that was pretty much the beginning of the end. The Libs are - unlike the other hyped bands mentioned - a true and honest band without ripping off bands as clearly as all the JD ripp offs. I can understand people hate the fuzz created by the media though but the Libs can't help that, same thing goes for Nirvana (just the created media hype of course).

If you don't like 'em (The Libs that is), that's fine with me but don't come with shitty non-arguments as you do now.
