:)This may sound stupid, but how come they aren't as productive as they used to be? Are they getting old or bored? Lack of inspiration perhaps? Families? Money? I think considering they are all in their late 30s/early 40s and half of them have full time jobs and at least two of them have kids I think they're pretty prolific! Steve has recorded in the last 5 years: 2 x Mudhoney albums, 2 x Solo albums, a solo EP, a Monkeywrench album - played a lot of shows, become a Dad etc etc Er.....that ANY of us could do THAT! Dan's a Dad plays in Mudhoney, has a side project, Guys a full time Nurse, Mark works for Fantagraphic (or at least did). They tour/play whn the can, record when they can. Hats off to them - nowt to do with lack of inspiration methinks. I have a band & work a full time job- in the past year we've written 3 songs, released an album (which we wrote and recorded the previous year), played about 25 shows.... I kinda think thats a bit lame! We're on average about 10 years younger than the Mudhoney blokes! If it seems like they're not as productive I guess it's due to not being on a major and having the machinery/backing and freedome to go out and tour 10 months of the year. As you get older your 'priorities' kinda change. Priorities perhaps isn't the right word - maybe situation is better..... Also I doubt they'd want to tour the US and the world 10 months of the year.... Anyways... just my opinion

I think Steve became a Dad earlier in the year. Oh I also forgot to add the New Strychnines project to that list!! What about Marks work with the DTK3/MC5 too. All in all they're what is known as prolific!!

I guess I should have done some research before I asked that question. I didn't realize that Steve has been so busy, and most of them have jobs to do. Fantagraphics looks like fun, I will take a longer look at that website some time. Uhm, I get your point And I kind of agree with thorn this time, bands should always do exactly what they want. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen.

Thats true - and I kinda get the feeling that as a band Mudhoney kinda do what they want - when they want. As in play, record, release records, do side/solo projects etc It's a tough balance being in a band AND having a life!! Bands seem to get pushed into doing stuff they don't wanna do when they lose sight of the reason for actually being in a band or when the lure of cash becomes more important than the 'art' - for want of a better word!! If we're talking Mudhoney - as we are - when they were looking for a label post Sub Pop v.1 (pre- Piece Of Cake) they were asked by Caroline (then a big hitting INDIE) who were in the running to sign them to 'sweeten' their sound and not do ANY side projects AND tour for 10 months!!! Now if they had signed to that label (and not Warners) there would probably be no band now, let alone a band after Piece Of Cake! Point is through being kinda prudent they've managed by accident or desgin (probably a bit of both) so survive for - what is it now - 18 years! Thats an INSANELY long time for a band to keep going and NOT SUCK!! (and Mudhoney kinda get better imo:) After 18 years of being together a band like the Rolling Stones were releasing trash like Tattoo You. The Cure after 18 years were into their mid 90s crap period - name me another band who after 18 years are still so damn good!! I'm gonna eat my dinner now!!

After 18 years of being together a band like the Rolling Stones were releasing trash like Tattoo You. True, but that was like their 20th full-length album. Bad comparision I think. Anyway, Mudhoney are doing a great job, agreed. More power to them. Now all they need to do is come over to Holland!
