Worst: 1990 Telescopes/Cranes @ Zap Club in Brighton All that was wrong about late 80s early 90s indie music in one horrible tuneless dirge of a show. Caterwauling nonsense from the Cranes and someone else's ideas from the Telescopes. I went to so many awful 'indie' shows like this - but this was the worst. 1987 The Style Council @ the Brighton Centre I spent the gig next to a group of mid '80s Mods who spent the entire set spitting at Mick Talbot and giving him the universal 'wanker' sign. The band consisted of Camille Hinds from Central Line on fretless bass, a funk drummer, a D C Lee stand in and a percussionist in luminous shorts (Steve Sydnlk who went on to play with Primal Scream I think). Oh dear. To think Weller was STILL a year or two away from 'Modernism: A New Decade' and his career nadir. There was no support instead they showed Jerusalem, their Weller directed anti-Tory/anti American surreal 'art film' instead. Went down well the with newly minted yuppies in attendance. I like the Style Council too...unfairly maligned in my book. 2001 Ryan Adams @ Hammersmith Lyric Was amazing 6 months before at the Borderline playing Heartbreaker tunes. Then acted like a dick at this gig and stopped making anything worthwhile soon after. He had his chance and he blew it. 1993 Radiohead @ the East Slope Bar, Sussex University, Brighton. Pre-Creep. Pre-Pablo Honey. NME press darlings play to a pretty hostile crowd at this Saturday night student only club gig. Trouble was I'd signed in as guest a few mates in who proceeded to mercilessly heckle the band (who were it must be said pretty awful) until lead singer Thom started crying and ran off stage. Security got a bit 'heavy' with the lairy old punks I'd signed in and my slightly older drunk 'mates from town' squared up offering Rugby types outside. I hid in a corner embarrassed. So an awful night - but Radiohead were terrible. I still can't face them live. 2004? Mark Lanegan Band @ The Astoria, London One of my fave singers in a strung out opiated mess on stage. Bad bad ju-ju. Looked like he was going to die on stage - he was translucent. Band members looked pretty shocking too. Murdered his songs. We left early. Bummer:(

Goldfinger/Reel Big Fish, when I was 13. The line-up should probably explain a lot, but the circle pit just made things worse.

The Lemonheads @ Lokerse Feesten 2007.
Evan Dando very very high. Lyrics mixed-up (just brabbling), didn't finish any songs. After hearing 5 "songs" I went home.
Greetings, Rambaldi
