I totally agree man, bands like Papa Roach suck big time. I'll probably check out the following bands: Team Sleep, Mastodon, The DEP, Slayer, intermission (with Velvet Revolver as some background music), maybe a piece of Audioslave - hopefully they'll start with those SG covers they've been playing lately, Helmet and BLACK SABBATH. Too bad Rammstein is headlining. I don't like their music really but their concept is great. I saw 'em a few years ago in Amsterdam and that show was marvellous. But now I've seen their trick, I guess when they play it's time to relax. I'm so fed up Mastodon plays at the same time as Motorhead. Too bad I adore Mastodon. [edit] And of course I will also visit Lowlands as any other year: Thurston, aren't you supposed to post the ATP line up now? ;]

In case of the Lowlands festival it's simple. Lowlands is a big festival in Holland and the organisation has to make sure the festival is attractive enough for about 60.000 people. That's why the line up is usually pretty righteous. The main reason I'm visiting Lowlands is for the atmosphere. It's great to hang out in some created village for about 5 days where you have no obilgations except for drinking beer, smoking pot and check out some bands now and then. For those who live in Holland, check out www.zxzw.nl/. Looks pretty interesting to me.

I went to Fields of Rock last Saturday and it was a great festival. It was bloody hot and the bands were great. First band of the day I saw was Team Sleep, a side project of that Deftones dude. Sounded a bit boring, but I guess they should've been playing later in the evening instead of early. Great drummer by the way.
Then it was time Mastodon. They weren't as tight as they can be and they skipped The Bit but these guys are still pretty damn good. I missed Motorhead for them, so you can imagine I like them. Then it was time for Dillinger Escape Plan, they were fucking mental. Greg, the singer, was puking A LOT all the time. After a while he explained the reason for that was the Papa Roach gig he saw for a few minutes earlier that day ;] Cheers for the loser who catched the towel Greg used for cleaning up the stage.
Velvet Revolver and Audioslave sucked. If you think you like 'em, admit it. These guys aren't for real and they don't mean it the way back then (although I never liked GnR and always saw the STP as a grungy boy band - though they have some good music). Helmet rawked, Page is a nice guy on stage and his riffs are marvellous. Black Sabbath was a bit dissapointing. Ozzy kept on screaming "I can't fucking hear ya", even during Tony's solos. I left after about 50 minutes.
Rammstein was headlining and they put on a great show. I never really followed them the last few years and I don't find their music that interesting but their live performance rules. No wonder they're one of David Lynch's favorite bands.
P.S. Slayer sucks big time live! How boring can a band be. I guess I should've been searching for that mosh pit but it was too crowdy and too fucking hot.

I'll be in Leeds on Thursday. So begins the voyage of drunkeness, sweating, watching bands in awe (mainly Pixies), laughter and some mushrooms to top it all off.
Don't do anything I wouldn't do Thurston.

I saw both bands at Lowlands last weekend. The Pixies were alright. They started quite slow but after they had warmed up they were pretty good. Unfortunately the place was very crowdy so I didn't stand in front. Also, Charles didn't raise his voice enough - which I totally love - like he did on the Gouge video during that London gig. They ended with Gigantic, then Charles and Kim wished each other goodnight and that was it.
QOTSA rocked. Good thing they kicked out that bass player. I wonder who's the new one.
I've also seen Dave Grohl drumming - for FF unfortunately ;] - during FF's encore. It wasn't a very fast or loud song but still, it was Dave on drums.
One of my discoveries during Lowlands were the Subways. They are a trio from England I believe and are all about 20 years young. Oh, and if you like Mudhoney, there's a chance you dig 'em ;]
