So I'm about 5 chapters into the new Nirvana book written by Everett True. S'called Nirvana The True Story. Its.... pretty good actually. Ok ok ok..... Nirvana what else is there to say - but ET is coming at things from a totally different perspective to say Charles R Cross or Michael Azzerard. I suppose until Krist or Grohl or someone 'closer' to the band/scene tell their tales this is kind of the real thing... whatever that is. I've been excited about reading this book as ET goes into A LOT of detail about the Olympia - Seattle - Aberdeen triangle. ET has seemingly spoken to EVERYONE.
Lots of Mudhoney stuff in the book. Weird thing is..... it's been really hard to track a copy down. Amazon were saying 4-6 weeks for delivery, neither of the big Borders in London seemed to have a copy. I tracked one down to Waterstones in Piccadilly and it was there - but full price - thats £20 hardback! Would have thought a book on Nirvana, written by Everett True would be more of a seller. But this seems to have just kinda limped out. I mean it's been reviewed in Mojo etc. Maybe it's what they call in the music biz a 'soft release' and the push will come around the paperback... But it's massive! 500+ pages - footnotes etc.
Kind of makes me think... Wonder if anyone will ever write a Mudhoney book.......

So if its written by Everrett True should be a nice package, he kinda was there since the beggining and sounds more level headed than that prick Charles Cross. I read HTH and it was totally subjective and didn't like the way it was written. I think Everrett should be the one to write a Mudhoney book.

on the other hand, Come As You Are by Michael Azerrad was a good read. That was my 1st rock book I've ever bought. And also the 1st book I've ever read that is not my native language. I had some problems with some words at the time so it was fun trying to look those new words on the dictionary. Speaking of books, I still haven't read Our Band Could Be Your Life. I heard was just fine. I need to look for it asap.

Kind of makes me think... Wonder if anyone will ever write a Mudhoney book....... Money talks, baby! What do you mean? Not enough money in a Mudhoney book? Probably not. But if it was well written/researched and came from an interesting perspective it could be amazing and appeal to more folks than say.... people who post on this board! The Mudhoney 'story' (you know what I mean) is..... fascinating. Ups, downs.... ins and outs ;D I'm a fan of the rock biog. When they're good - like Jimmy McDonoughs book 'Shakey' on Neil Young for example, or David Cavanaghs book on Creation Records - I just can't put them down. When they're bad..... christ I've read some bad 'rock' books. The recent Queens Of The Stone Age rip-off, Danny Sugarmans book on Guns N Roses (yes I read some shite! they're painful. Everetts book is totally in the 'un-put downable'.... Mudhoney biog. I don't know. I guess if anyone was to write one it could be Everett again or Keith Cameron. I might give it a go.....

He's currently writing a book on Sonic Youth. Intrested to see what that turns out like.
Is it now 'cool' to dislike Heavier than heaven?

I have a few Sonic Youth books. 1st up Alec Foege's Confusion Is Next which is a straight up bio. Then this weird 7" sized (with free 7") Italian biography and this weird full size bio/pictorial history called I Dream Of Noise. All kind of ok. Foeges bio does the job in a kinda workmanlike manner. Doesn't really do them justice though. I also have Lee Ranaldo JRNLS80 book of road stuff and poems and Thurstons exellent Alabama Wildman book. Had heard that Everett was working on a bio and that it may be coming out this year!! Excellent! No idea is its cool to diss HTH. I know it has it's detractors (my wife for example read a bit and couldn't stop laughing at it). But I think its ok. 'Cept this new book kind of makes it a bit redundant. For what it's worth here's my in no order top 10 fave music books Michael Azerard 'This Band Could Be Your Life' Julian Cope 'Head On/Repossessed' Jimmy Mcdonough 'Shakey - Neil Youngs Biography' David Cavanagh 'My Magpie Eyes Are Hungry For The Prize - The Creation Records Story' Clinton Heylin 'From The Velvets To The Voidoids' Erik Morse 'Spacemen 3 and the birth of Spiritualized' Lester Bangs 'Psychotic Reactions & Carburetter Dung' Joe Carducci 'Rock & The Pop Narcotic' Julian Cope 'Krautrocksampler' and even after a few chapters have to put this new Evereett True Nirvana book in!!
