I'm not a fan of 'crowd surfing'. Seems to be a bit macho and pointless to me. Sorry. Makes the pit a predominantly male only enviroment. At the Lemonheads show last week last Shep Bush anyone who crowd surfed over the barrier was ejected (or at least thats how it looked) - bit harsh but kinda put a stop to it so people close up could watch withou getting a boot in the head. Yeah yeah yeah I know all the arguements - if ya don't like it don't go down there etc, but usually the nature of a 'pit' or whatever is dictated by a few. Worst bit about getting to the front at Dinosdaur was the few (much less than at Mudhoney) crowd surfers. Where I was on Saturday night @ Mudhoney was cool 'cos no one was surfing - aside from the one dude who wanted to climb the fencing at the side.... Sorry Lainey - personal opinion and all:)
Didn't bother me that they didn't play Suck You Dry Saturday either - was more glad that the 2nd set on Saturday was different to Friday. Posioned Water.... wow! Roll on the next time they're over.

i was right at the front on Saturday getting my neck broke off by the security dragging a never-ending supply of crowd surfers over me.... I hate it when the security are standing on the step infront of you blocking your view of the band!! apart from that - tons of fun! What do you look like cos I might've seen you as I was at the front too. I was in front of guy for the whole gig.

being at the front is a bit of a risk especially where mudhoney is involved. when dino jr played we were also at the front, but nobody was moving at all, when mudhoney came on the crowd went ape shit and didnt stop moving. we were crushed and i still have the bruise from the barrier, ah well it was worth it!!!!!!!

But I was closer to Steve side than Guys... My photos are on the way once I get em scanned btw (im just back from a wee holiday) I've got one's of Dan waving his hand's in confusion with the rest of em laughing after their false start to "Burn it Clean" I gotta share em with u guys

Posioned Water.... wow! Roll on the next time they're over. From the sounds of it you and I go to gigs for different reasons. Sure i do go to watch the band and hear the music live, but more importantly I go because it's the one place where I can be free and let out those urges I get everytime I hear mudhoney/whoever im seeing. When I'm at a gig I get to physically express my love for a band with many people doing the exact same thing. IMO, people who get pissed off by that are a bit selfish, sure you should always consider other people when you're going crazy, but then if most people are going crazy and a few people up the front just wanna 'watch' and dislike the fact that other people are enjoying themselves, then they shouldnt be there, they should sit on a balcony or something... Surely there must be someone here who gets pissed off watching all those people in the sold out standing section doing FUCK ALL while your stuck with a seat, eventually having to jump a fence and run past security? And suck you dry is my favourite song they play live because it gets a great reacion from the crowd, thats why I'd be slightly disappointed if it wasn't played. It's just a fucking great song, big fan or casual listener you cant deny how good it is. EDIT O and crowd surfing doesn't really effect pits IMO, at mudhoney there was a constant pit type vibe going on but the proper pits were to the side on the friday. And I crowd surf not for the 'macho' factor, but the sense of a total lack of power. It feels amazing being lobbed around at your own peril with a band playing, it's hard to describe, but anyone who's ever properly crowd surfed will know what I'm talking about.

Lainey: indeed it does sound like we go to gigs for different reasons. You make some interesting points. I don't agree with them, but they're still interesting. I kinda think that if you feel the need to express yourself at shows by crowdsurfing and 'going crazy' then maybe you need another outlet for your pent up aggression? Rugby or wrestling maybe? Don't get me wrong I think you're completely entitled to do whatever you want 'in the pit'. It's your right to stage dive, crowd surf or whatever, but I think its my right should you do it near me and I get a boot in the head to get you ejected and/or show to you my displeasure by maybe giving you a gentle loving slap up side yo head:) I'd never do that of course. I'm a peaceful kinda guy. I think this kind of behaviour is something one grows out of as one gets older. When I was 17 and at my 1st Mudhoney show I stage dived. It was fun at the time BUT I did it 'cos 1. I was drunk 2. I thought 'thats what you did at punk shows' (I soon wised up). I wouldn't do it now and haven't for 15+ years. I just really think it shows a lack of respect to people around you who ain't into it and I think it's selfish to think that people who wanna watch and enjoy it in their own way should put up with a boot in the head or some sweaty body landing on them. What exactly is wrong with doing 'fuck all' at the front of a gig? You see we get back to the 'we all enjoy gigs differently' argument don't we.... so this circle can never be squared can it. I accept that. But I think it's a matter in this case of RESPECT. Love and peace
