You need to get over this whole 'you can't play like XXXX so don't criticize' thing Thorn ok? You're entitled to your opinion about Nebula - yeah Eddies great and all - but just cos I or anyone else can't play like him doesn't mean he's immune from debate or that one can't have an opinion on his work ok? Grasp this little concept and move forward Do we really need to go down the MOST NEW MUSIC SUCKS NOWADAYS dead end? Most of everything new sucks man! Use you head and dig out the good new stuff - in EVERYTHING!! Music no more sucks now than it did 25 years ago. New or old. I think at best Nebula are a pretty good gonzoid acid stoner rock band - at worst they're sort of embarrassing to listen to - and every one of their albums has tracks that suck. Like I said I wish I'd seen them live on the recent tour. I played the album AGAIN earlier. It has it's moments - but for me it's their weakest work to date and tracks like Fever Frey are just re-treading old ground and wouldn't make it onto my iPod. If I had one.

As I haven't seen them live yet, I will certainly check them out at the Dour festival in Belgium next month. And I know what you mean Smallstone. With so much great music out there, I find it pretty boring to keep listening to the same stuff and the same bands. I even find myself not checking out new albums by bands I used to really like, 'cause nowadays I think it will probably sound like the other stuff they have released, only worse, especially compared to bands as Boris indeed. (I also find myself unconciously comparing all music to the Melvins, which is why I could possibly end up hating them; they're ruining music for me.) And to back myself up a little, not all bands have to be progressive - hell no! Earthless for example - with some guy who had something to do with Nebula, a roadie? - isn't much different from Cream jamming out 35 years ago (except for Baker, Bruce and Clapton), but for today's music it's pretty much out of the box thinking, and that's refreshing and inspiring. Earth 2 was released 10 years ago! And most drone stuff nowadays bores the hell out of me. And to end with Zappa; talking about music is like dancing about architecture. suicidegirls.com/words/Buzz+Osbourne/DRE: You've said that you're not a phenomenally technical guitarist, where do your strengths lie? BO: Well you put me up against Steve Vai in terms of technical ability, he will blow me away. But I'll take the Pepsi challenge with songwriting against Steve any day. I think I'm a hundred times more interesting than him in terms of coming up with interesting records. I saw Steve Vai play with Frank Zappa in the early 1980's, he was fucking amazing but he's playing exactly what Frank wants him to play. Put him in that situation and he will bury you. If you ask him to write you an album, I mean Kurt Cobain would have stomped his ass. Ultimately being a phenomenal technical guitarist is worthless unless you're a hired gun, which is where Vai's strengths lie. I never took guitar lessons, I don't know how to read music.

Jesus Thorn you've got one thing right - I was pissed off! Well done. I had/have gastric flu and have just passed and vomited my body weight in the last 48 hours. But thats by the by - but kinda explains if I may seem a little crotchety at the moment. But AGAIN you miss the point! Why aren't I writing as songs as good as Nebula? Is that a real question? Er... cos I can't. I have no songwriting ability. Thats not the point!!! I posit an idea. However dumb - like duh you know I don't kinda like much this here new Nebula record as much - whats you other folks think? Your insightful response. Man - Eddies god. Don't knock Eddie. You can't play like Eddie. You can't write songs like Eddie. Who are you to criticize. Eh?Thats not constructive man. Thats inane. Sorry. I'm trying to be constructive here too I just wanna try and raise your game a bit I've edited this posting down about 50% - cos it was turning into the rantings of a vomit wracked invalid. Er - so no one caught them live them? OK?
