Ok ok... Left part of my mind over on the sand dunes at ATP. Suffice to say at 34 I thought I'd kinda done 'festivals' and come out the other end. But NO! It. Was. Awesome. My only better festival experiences have been Reading back when it was good - 1989 to 1991. Full report later when my mind has settled but suffice to say Mudhoney day was incredible. But the whole weekend was astonishing!!!! ;D Slightly different set from Mudhoney on Friday night. Think they dropped in Beneath The Valley Of The Underdog and a few others. But it rocked so hard! I even.... can't quite believe I did this..... joined in the 'mosh pit' during ANOTHER STORMING encore of Hate The Police. It was good natured (no crowd surfin'). Such a great weekend. Here's the highlights: Scientists, Comets On Fire, Black Mountain, Holly Golightly, Bert Jansch, Vetiver, Vashti Bunyan, Espers, Devendra Banhart, Jandek, lovely folk stuff, Onieda, Liars, Magik Markers, watching the best FA cup final I've ever seen in the pub, bars that opened till 5am, a lovely walk into Rye (beautiful town) and a pub lunch, lovely walks on the beach, seeing old friends, terrible chalets, drinking Jack Daniels......... Did anyone else go?

I am feeling battered..... What a great weekend. Started with Vetiver last Wednesday then Mudhoney next day - then 3 days at ATP. So not too much to add really. This weekend is the last time they go to Camber Sands for the do as they're moving to Minehead forThurston Moores Nightmare Before Xmas fest. this Dec. So tempted to go to that... but a) I think it's sold out and b) Minehead in December...? Nah - I'm gonna go!!! So Pontins in Camber Sands. Nice area of the country - but the site itself is a bit grim. The chalet we stayed in was kinda like a downtown cheap as chips LA Motel room... Sort of place you'd hire by the hour to do crack in! Horrible. But still we got kinda used to it. I was staying with my wife and a friend. Loaded up on beer, JD, wine and food (you can cook in the chalets). Got to the site. Got our wrist bands and keys - 1st person I bump into is Danny Peters! Said hello and thanked him for the gig night before in London. Danny P - as friendly as ever! Friday was great. Checked out Mark Pickerell. Johnny Sangster was playing guitar. They got Wreckless Eric up to do 'Whole Wide World'. Pretty good. Comets On Fire tore a whole in the place. Awesome!! Again!! Great to just hang out saying hello to friends and stuff. Beer was cheap from the pub. Lovely weather too on Friday. Holly Golightly played upstairs and went down really well! Saw a bit of Jon Wahl. Not really familiar with his stuff. Black Mountain played a pretty heavy psychedelic set with tracks from first album and new stuff too. Mudhoney came on about 11.30 and played a similar set to what they've doing on this Euro tour. The did play Here Comes Sickness and Beneath The Valley. I watched from the side of the stage for a bit - Dannys drumming is insane! Like I said good natured crowd. All good!! Stayed up late drinking - bumped into Steve earlier in the day. Again good to say hi and he was doing good. Oh yeah! Scientists!! Great again! I think the band were really into the day. Mark kinda commented from the stage that is was just incredible to see Flesh Eaters and Scientists on same bill. Bands, as he said, he thought he'd never see live. Good times! Saturday popped into Rye which is a beautiful town for lunch. Went back to the site - caught the Liars (unhinged!!), Magik Markers, Ex-Models & bit of 100 Eyes. Oneida though. I've said it before. I'll say it again. When they are on stage playing - there is just no one else who can do their schnizzle. They were so out there at ATP. Now with added extra guitar from one of Trans Am. They just blew me away again!! Sunday was pretty incredible a well - possibly one of the best days of music I've ever experienced!! Vetiver, Bert Jansch, Espers, Devendra Bandhart and yes Jandek! Not the biggest fan and ok I could only manage 20 minutes of his set but I'm kinda glad I saw him. About an hour after he played I was grabbing a drink at the bar, I turned around and Jandek was stood at the bar next too me. V tall, clad in black and v pale! But anyways.... it all was great

Wicked man! And thanks for the update on what seems like a perfect weekend for you! I dunno why but i liked the pontins atp headquartes, there was just something about it and the challets were funny,do they still have a price list on the table when you get in you'r challet? where it states the prices of everything in it incase you break something?I brought mine home last time was so funny reading that like Cooker - £250 Window - £100 Spoon - 20p ect..was funny, anyway nice to see you had fun man and met some rather kool people,Comets On Fire are really fucking good live aint they, they really suprised me thursday in london i was blown away to say the least. Also ATP - The Nightmare Before X-Mas isnt sold out,if you try quick you can get a 2 person room (which is pretty cheap compared to past 4 person rooms)So get you'r tickets for that man,i've got mine or ordered them at least and will get them in december at minehead,Minehead (im gonna be selfish here) Is going to be fun as this december atp is like 100 miles closer to me,god i remember back in 2004 that horrible 5 hour car journey to camber sands but it was worth it,minehead is suposed to be much better than camber sands but im sure we will find out. Thx once again smallstone for you'r great review of a very damn nice weekend you had,Karma shall rise for you.
