Here's an interview with Mark where he talks about it.

Let me tell you a little story here: by the end of '92 i had dumped my junkie girfriend and was trying to stay away from heroin. I ran into Kurt and Courtney at a New Year's Eve party and went back to their hotel room where i overdosed. There's nothing like waking up surrounded by paramedics. I stopped hanging around Kurt and Courtney after that, you know, for health reasons. I hardly saw Kurt at all until we joined Nirvana for the first two weeks of the "In Utero" tour. One night a couple of us abandoned our van and rode to the next town on Nirvana's bus. That night Kurt asked me how i managed to stop doing heroin. I told him that i had wanted to, from the depths of my soul. It wasn't fun anymore (it hadn't been fun for a long time), and it was killing me emotionally as well as physically. I guess what I failed to mention was that if you really want to quit, you've got to lose all those junkie leeches you call "friends" and YOU NEED TO DUMP YOUR JUNKIE WIFE!

Yea, never knew Mark did heroin..when Mudhoney first started, both Mark and Steve were straight-edge...

So am I, in the weekends. I think Ian would be pretty proud of me since I usually overthink my drugs of choice and alcohol. sXe's for wankers; yet another misinterpretated thought.

Mark and Steve were straight-edge?!? balls! surely not.
I read an early interview on Muddclubb about when Mark met Dan at a local gig shortly after Green River split up and he was totally blocked. He told him about the break up then dashed off to the loo's to boke!
Not to mention the fact their all lying on each other clinging to beer tins in the Superfuzz (+) Cd - not exactly a S.E. statement that!
They may have toyed with it like a lot of ppl in 1980 when they first met... is that what you mean?

Thanks for keeping me informed about the Q mag. I picked it up today after an unsuccessful last attempt at christmas shopping...It's really fresh yeh. Which is a good thing considering it costs six quid! Later
